Celebrate the coming of Halloween and practise adding 2-digit numbers up to 99 with this set of Halloween mystery picture worksheets.

Halloween is approaching, and it’s time to bring some spookiness into the classroom!

Halloween Mystery Pictures for the Win

Through this Halloween maths activity, pupils will show they can use addition strategies to add two-digit numbers within 100 through understanding place value and composing 10. These worksheets require pupils to solve problems involving two-digit addition without regrouping.

Provide each pupil with a copy of the hidden picture grid and accompanying colour key. They will also need a sheet of scrap paper to work out each problem.

Scaffolding for Pupils in Need

Support pupils who need help understanding the concepts using base-ten blocks to model the addends. They can also use a number, line or hundreds chart to help find the sum.
