Find a Friend with Back to School Icebreakers

Make your first day back to school a fun and engaging experience by using this find-a-friend icebreaker activity. Students will get to know their classmates by rolling the dice and responding to the questions. They will record their classmates’ responses on the recording sheet. The best part is that you do not need anything but the dice! You can use this game to introduce or conclude any lesson or activity!

Give each student a copy of the selected Find a Friend page. Have the students walk around and talk to their new classmates to find someone who can find a match on the chart. The “new friend” should write their name in the box.

Encourage students to talk about the box they have selected. For example, student likes to play video games. The other student should ask which game or what they like about the game. The goal is to find someone new to talk to and sign each box. This helps foster community. Students will find other students they have something in common with.
